About

After 12 years of working as a salaried architect in the Lake District with Stables and Gilchrist/Rhodes Day of Windermere , South Lakeland Council, Eden District Council and ADK of Keswick, Graham started his own practice in 1992 working from his home in Sockbridge near Penrith, Cumbria.

Soon the practice flourished and relocated to an office in Penrith with space enough for the 5-6 person team. Today the practice is based in 'state of the art' offices at Eden Business Park, Penrith,

Over the years the practice has maintained the same core team, ensuring greater continuity of the practice ethos and expertise.

Approach

Our philosophy focuses on developing a personal and professional service combining environmental principles, contemporary design and vernacular architectural tradition.

We care about design, and we work hard with our clients to create crafted, innovative solutions, that are attractive and often sensitive to the surrounding context.

In many instances we work closely with planning  consultants, planners and developers to help unlock problematic sites/projects.

Process

We tailor our output/drawings specifically to each project. This ranges from hand drawn drawings for more a more traditional/sensitive approach through to CAD and BIM drawings where buildings are fully modelled in 3d.

This full range of output we believe makes us unique and ideally suited to prepare your drawings specifically to your project requirements.

Planning and working with developers

We work with planning consultants and developers at early stages of projects either to unlock potential sites and secure outline planning permissions, or simply to prepare sketch feasibility studies to help assess the viability of a site.

Cost/Fees?

We don't set 'headline' fees for each type of project. We feel this doesn't account for the complexities of the design service we offer. We also find that clients can easily get hit with additional fees which never goes down well.

We prepare each fee proposal specific to each project with a cost against each service required so that all the work we do is properly accounted for in the fee proposal.

We keep timesheets for each project so we can prepare competive fee proposals based on similar past projects.

On larger and more complex projects we often work to RIBA fees scales which works on a percentage based on the building class of the proposal set against the total construction cost.

What happens next?

Please get in contact with us and we can arrange a meeting with you either in our office or on site to discuss your project further.

Based on the discussions we can then provide you with a competitive fee proposal for the services you require.
